Bhagavad Gita and Leaders
Wherever Lord Krishna & Arjun are present, Victory is there!

Influential Leaders have have time and again demonstrated their deep respect and support of the Bhagavad Gita openly as a means to spread the rich religion-agnostic pearls of wisdom.  Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted the Bhagavad Gita to former US President Barack Obama during his maiden visit to USA. This year has been no exception. Leaders in US polictics elected to US Congress showed their deep appreciation by choosing to take the oath to office on the Bhagavad Gita. Leaders also gracefully accepted the gift of Bhagavad Gita from Motel Gita team on January 3, 2017 at the top diginitaries and media-filled 'Indiaspora' gala Event
CongresswomanTulsi Gabbard lighted the first candle at the gala, followed by all other dignitaries. Amongst others, Ms.Pramila Jayapal took oath on Bhagavad Gita on January 3, 2017 as she became the first Indian American woman in US House of Representatives representing 7th district of Wahington.Congressman Mr. Raja Krishnamoorthi won the election from Illinois also took the oath on Gita.
Motelgita's presence at the Indiaspora Gala served as a reminder of the values and guiding principles found in the Bhagavad-gita that are at the root of Indian-American culture and that have helped shape many of the leaders now in top positions in the U.S. government. Nandini Kishori , Director at Motelgita gifted the 'Bhagavad Gita As It Is' to several political leaders and dignitaries including Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, U.S. Surgeon General Mr. Vivek Murthy, and His Excellency Navtej Sarna, the Indian Ambassador to the U.S.

A Special Mention
Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard
Ms. Tulsi Gabbard is the first Hindu to be elected to the United States Congress and first person to take oath on Bhagvad Gita. Her appreciation for Bhagavad Gita is a very interesting topic across internet.Explore some videos here

In her articulate speech at the International Gita Conference, she glorified Srila Prabhupada, the author of the most widely distributed edition of Bhagavad Gita. She also stressed that without Srila Prabhupada there is no clear understanding of this timeless message.  Watch her speech:   Tulsi's address from 3:22 minute - 18:07 minutes.

Ms. Gabbard gifted Indian PM Narendra Modi with her personal copy of Bhagavad Gita on his US in 2014. "I gave my personal copy of Bhagvad Gita that I had since childhood, took shelter of in Mid-east war zone duty, took Congressional Oath on, she tweeted after her meeting with PM Modi.

Nourishing Our Higher Tendencies

A Native American wisdom story tells of two dogs that live in every human heart: a bad dog and a good dog. The bad dog represents the lower tendencies of envy, anger, lust, greed, arrogance and illusion. The good dog represents the higher tendencies of compassion, integrity, generosity, humility and wisdom. These two dogs battle one another. Which dog will win? The one we chose to feed!
We "feed" the dogs through the choices we make. Using the intelligence for spiritual pursuits, to express compassion, and to love with integrity nourishes the good dog and keeps the bad dog at bay. Sometimes that's easier said than done. For many of us, the bad dog has become so entrenched in us that it's deafening howls drive our actions. Meanwhile, the good dog, weak and undernourished, is only a whimper in the corner of our conscience.
Practicing yoga strengthens the intelligence and empowers us to neglect our bad-dog qualities, however loudly they may howl. Then we're free to feed the good dog, or our own divine nature. At each moment, life hands us the choice to be cruel or kind, duplicitous or honest, arrogant or humble, greedy or charitable, vengeful or forgiving. We can choose between selfish passion and selfless devotion. There are many things in the world that are beyond our control, but how we choose to act isn't one of them. So we're free to elevate our consciousness  – feed the good dog – or degrade it.

How to analyze our actions?

Whenever right or wrong action a man/woman performs by body, mind or speech is due to following five factors.
1> The Place of action (Body)
2> The Performer (Soul)
3> The various senses
4> Different kinds of endeavor
5> The Supersoul (Lord)
There are the five causes for the accomplishment of all actions. (BG 18.13-15)
These details can only be found in Bhagavad Gita and no where else.

Qualification of Civilized Person

Vedic scriptures like Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam teaches us how to be self-realized. Self-realization is distinguished from the life of the lower animals engaged in eating, sleeping, fearing and mating. For e.g. in Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.9.26 Bhismadev advises all the human beings to have following nine qualifications to be called civilized person.

(1) Not to become angry, (2) Not to lie, (3) To equally distribute wealth, (4) To forgive, (5) To beget children only by one's legitimate wife, (6) To be pure in mind and hygienic in body, (7) Not to be inimical toward anyone, (8) To be simple, and (9) To support servants or subordinates.

You can see how our scriptures are full with knowledge and that's the reason MotelGita is driven to keep Bhagavad Gita in all the hotels and motels across the United States. Everyone can become self-realized.

Bhagavad Gita Mahatmya (Glories)

Why one should read Bhagavad Gita?

TEXT 1

gita-shastram idam punyam, yah pathet prayatah puman

vishnoh padam avapnoti, bhaya-shokadi-varjitah.

One who, with a regulated mind, recites with devotion this Bhagavad-gita scripture which is the bestower of all virtue, will attain to a holy abode such as Vaikuntha, the residence of Lord Vishnu, which is always free from the mundane qualities based on fear and lamentation.

TEXT 2

gitadhyayana-shilasya, pranayama-parasya ca
naiva santi hi papani, purva-janma-kritani ca

If one reads Bhagavad-gita very sincerely and with all seriousness, then by the grace of the Lord the reactions of his past misdeeds will not act upon him.

TEXT 3

maline mocanam pumsam, jala-snanam dine dine
sakrid gitamrita-snanam, samsara-mala-nashanam

One may cleanse himself daily by taking a bath in water, but if one takes a bath even once in the sacred Ganges water of Bhagavad-gita, for him the dirt of material life is altogether vanquished.

TEXT 4

gita su-gita kartavya, kim anyaih shastra-vistaraih
ya svayam padmanabhasya, mukha-padmad vinihsrita

Because Bhagavad-gita is spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, one need not read any other Vedic literature. One need only attentively and regularly hear and read Bhagavad-gita. In the present age, people are so absorbed in mundane activities that it is not possible for them to read all the Vedic literatures. But this is not necessary. This one book, Bhagavad-gita, will suffice, because it is the essence of all Vedic literatures and especially because it is spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

TEXT 5

bharatamrita-sarvasvam, vishnu-vaktrad vinihsritam
gita-gangodakam pitva, punar janma na vidyate

By drinking the Ganges waters of the Gita, the divine quintessence of the Mahabharat emanating from the holy lotus mouth of Lord Vishnu, one will never take rebirth in the material world again. In other words, by devotionally reciting the Gita, the cycle of birth and death is terminated.

TEXT 6

sarvopanishado gavo, dogdha gopala-nandanah
partho vatsah su-dhir bhokta, dugdham gitamritam mahat

All the Upanisads are like a cow, and the milker of the cow is Lord Shri Krishna, the son of Nanda. Arjuna is the calf, the beautiful nectar of the Gita is the milk, and the fortunate devotees of fine theistic intellect are the drinkers and enjoyers of that milk.

TEXT 7

ekam shastram devaki-putra-gitam
eko devo devaki-putra eva
eko mantras tasya namani yani
karmapy ekam tasya devasya seva

There need be only one holy scripture-the divine Gita sung by Lord Shri Krishna: only one worshipable Lord-Lord Shri Krishna: only one mantra-His holy names: and only one duty-devotional service unto that Supreme Worshipable Lord, Shri Krishna.

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis:

Please accept my most respectful obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I am attaching the excel sheet for the book distribution for Motel Gita project at a couple of Garba events in Sacramento. The first one was in West Sacramento on 10/20/12 and the second one was on 10/27/12. We received quite a good response on the first one where we were able to meet and interact with quite a few motel owners. We were able to hand cases of BGs to some motel owners on that day itself (see the report in the email below). The second one was a more popular Garba night event where we could not meet many people but by Lord Caitanya's mercy we still were able to distribute cards and take down information from some people who seemed interested. One gentleman by the name Chaturbhai Patel handed information on a few motels in Reno, NV. Asit Prabhu then followed up by making calls to the contacts we took down and spoke in his native Gujarati language. People such as Chaturbhai Patel provided the addresses of motel owners in Reno whereas we're still waiting on some others to get back to us. All the information has been recorded in the attached spreadsheet for the confirmed ones.

Please note that I have highlighted the ones yet to be delivered. Once we receive more info / feedback, we will send out another report.

We will send out more information as and when we receive it.

Param Vijayate Sri Krishna Sankirtanam!

Humbly in service,
Team Sacramento

Hare Krishna Dear Devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

We had a successful Motel Gita presentation last weekend (Saturday, 10/20/12) at a Garba/Dandiya event in West Sacramento. We were able to meet with quite a few motel owners and by Lord Gauranga's mercy, were able to convince them in placing Bhagavad Gita in their motel rooms. Here are the details followed by my G.N.A.B

Devotees participated: Radhakrishnan, Asit Dani, Pranay Tandon, Sudeep Sabnis
Bhagavad Gita (BG) dispatched:  70 (placed in Motel Owner's cars)
Bhagavad Gita (BG) to be delivered: 170
Total BG: 240
Number of Motels: 7 (Comfort Inn, Gateway Inn, America's Best Value Inn, etc)

(We had to give away some 7-10 BGs to the public because of an announcement from the organizers, those are not included in the above count)

G.N.A.B.:People were receptive:
We reached there a little after 8p (the event was from 8p-midnight) and got our table setup behind the reception desk. Asit Prabhu had brought along some Bhagavad Gita and Krsna books in Gujarati (a regional language spoken by people from the state of Gujarat), which helped greatly. We found people to be very appreciative. Matajis were stopping by our table with a smile on their faces as if they were acknowledging the transcendental work we were doing. That helped us carry out our task with minimal effort.

Interaction with Motel owners:
We had decided among ourselves that we would let Asit Prabhu do most of the talking in Gujarati while our task would be to get people to swing by our table. One of the common concerns motel owners had was "Will I incur sin if the Bhagavad Gita is not handled properly"....which resulted from their experience of seeing how the Bible was being defiled in their motel rooms. Our response was "No, you will not....we will restock the books if that happens, and are willing to take the risk. We would like the message of Lord Krishna to be reached out to everyone". We then showed them the verse from BG 18.68 and 18.69 and that was it, we didn't have to convince anymore. While distributing flyers and Motel Gita cards we were getting responses like "I don't own any motels". Our response was "Okay, you still maybe knowing someone who does. Nope, okay, then you may meet someone who does" and they were happily accepting the cards.

The Team:
It was great to see Asit Prabhu make that 1-1 connection with the motel owners by speaking in his native language (Gujarati). I have always admired his simplicity and it is one of his many Vaishnava qualities which enabled him to bond with the people he talked. Radhakrishnan Prabhu was a happy man delivering cases of Bhagavad Gita by walking down with the Motel owners to their cars. He didn't appear to be jet-lagged even though he had gotten back just a day from Japan (and guess who he ran into there?) Pranay Tandon Prabhu was the birthday boy and what a way to celebrate it by being out there on Sankirtan. He is a jolly person to be around.

It was a great experience, the effect of which lasted for a couple more days simply when I kept thinking about it. That's the beauty of transcendental service (pratyakshavagamam dharmyam su-sukham kartum avyayam)...... that one simply relishes more as one gets engaged more and more into it. Thank you to Motel Gita Team for engaging us in this service. All glories to you. All glories to the devotees who sponsored the cases for book distribution. Jaya!

Your servant,
Sudeep Sabnis
